Jaheem McLaurin has deep roots in the community and has long been dedicated to serving it. Jaheem McLaurin is a community leader who is willing to do whatever to champion the rights of those he serves. He is a man of integrity that believes in the power of the people. He believes that we all are called to be public servants in some way. Jaheem is not afraid to speak up for what he believes in, from fighting to keep a local high school principal in place to participating in a racial justice march and speaking on behalf of his generation, Jaheem is the voice for the voiceless. Jaheem has over 8 years in experience serving his community whether civic or political, he has been a pillar in his community. As a third-generation citizen of Marlboro County and an honor graduate and former Student Body President of Marlboro County High School and Northeastern Technical College, and a first-generation college student, Jaheem has seen many changes in his community, good and bad. Jaheem is a young man that does not know everything but is not afraid to learn and ask questions. Jaheem loves his family and friends and live by Philippians 4:13; I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Jaheem obtained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest ranking in Boy Scouts in November of 2020. In addition, Jaheem earned a sexual assault prevention, notary public and Firefighting/EMT certificates in 2021. He completed his Associates of Arts degree from Northeastern Technical College and is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree at the University of South Carolina. He has received several community and public service awards and has spoken at several community events. Formerly, Jaheem served on The Marlboro County Youth Leadership Council, Superintendent Advisory Commitee, and as a Mayor's Fellow to Mayor Stephen K. Benjamin, and now serves as a Clyburn Fellow to Whip James E. Clyburn and The South Carolina Democratic Party. Currently, Jaheem serves as 3rd Vice Chair for the Marlboro County Democratic Party (MCDP), An ex-official member of the Bennettsville Police Department Citizen Advisory Board, and A mentor for Marlboro County School District.
